Abstract:

This talk surveys several studies in which facereading technology is applied to measure and track emotional state in an economic setting. Three applications are considered. The first is the relationship between emotional state and risk averse, as well as prudent, decision making. The second is the connection between emotions and charitable giving. The third is the emotional correlates of rejection behavior in ultimatum games. We find close connections between the overall valence of emotional state, as well as specific emotions, and behavior in all three settings.
