Venue: Durham University Business School, 453

Abstract:

The Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) has been monitoring children’s educational progress for over thirty years. Schools in the UK and internationally pay to use CEM’s monitoring systems in order to find out what their students know and can do, and to track their progress. More than 1 million students are assessed each year. As a consequence of running the monitoring systems for information for schools, the Centre holds large, longitudinal datasets. This presentation will give an overview of the monitoring systems, the scope of the data that are available for research purposes, and examples of what we have learned from assessing children from pre-school to the end of compulsory education at age 16.
